One Small Thing

At the end of each month, I get a newsletter from Emily P. Freeman, author of, “The Next Right Thing.” Each includes three questions, and she writes, “As I share my views, I hope you’ll reflect on yours.” On her latest list was: “Where did you see God in July?” For me, He was revealed under a trash can, where a neighbor and I found two kittens. They spent two days in my garage, and when I reached into the carrier to feed them, the female always hissed. Despite their fear, and barely having teeth, the cats ate until I got them fostered.

Psalm 145:14-17 says: “The Lord supports all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down. The eyes of all look hopefully to you; you give them their food in due season. You open wide your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing. The Lord is just in all his ways, merciful, in all His works.” Freeman ends her letters with, “May grace surprise you kindly.” She and the Psalmist both call us to tend to the little things that we can do – to open our hands, so our eyes may be also.
