December 9, 1936–July 16, 2017
Elizabeth Josephine Bloodworth was born December 9, 1936 in Fort Benning, Georgia and baptized in the Chapel there. She was the 12th of 14 children born to Daniel and Elizabeth Kendrick Bloodworth, from Gordon and Selma, GA respectively.
She entered the Missionary Servants of the Most Blessed Trinity on August 5, 1954, made her first profession on March 25, 1956 and final profession on March 25, 1961.
Her relationship with her family was strong. She loved and was well loved by her family and looked forward to visits with them. Sister had a Teacher Certificates in both Alabama and Mississippi.
Sister had varied mission experiences over the years serving at Assumption parish in Charlotte, NC, Sacred Heart in Lorain, Ohio and in Alabama she served in Phenix City, Opelika, Gadsden, Birmingham, and Holy Trinity. Also, while in Kiln, Mississippi she taught CCD in Clermont Harbor.
She served in the MSBT Development office for 3 years and for 16 years she served at Fr. Judge High School as an Administrative Assistant. Several of the men who knew her while students have remarked on her kindness and the support she offered to them. For 3 years she served at the Thea Bowman Enrichment Center in the role of Intake Worker. More recently she volunteered as a tutor as part of the Motherhouse “Indwelling” program. She was missioned to the Ministry of Prayer for three years.
Sister Elizabeth Daniel had a strong commitment for peace and justice issues and was a long-term member of the MSBT Peace and Justice Committee. Her particular cause was to pray for the victims of the traffickers and for the conversion of traffickers.
She was an expert at knitting, tatting and crocheting. Her countless tatted and crocheted crosses have been spread far and wide. She shared these with all those she met.
Over the years Sister struggled with seizures. These limited her activities at times. However, she was ever present at community events both local and communal. Her joy was singing in the Motherhouse choir and being an active “prayer partner”. She was a prayerful presence at Wesley as she reached out to everyone; always the Missionary! She was known for her kindness to all she met in her daily providence. Regardless of how she was feeling, she always had a smile, a greeting with a blessing and a kind word. Her fellow residents at Wesley will miss her friendly greetings and blessings, as will we.
Words that would describe Sr. Daniel Elizabeth: generous, prayerful, joyful, practical, thoughtful, creative and a missionary with a great love for the poor. She has served faithfully! She is now at peace and held in the embracing presence of our Loving Triune God, Father, Son, and Spirit!!! May she rest in eternal peace and with great JOY!
