Sr. Barbara’s Letter

Dear Friends of BTSR,

May the grace and peace of the Holy Spirit be with us forever!

For over 100 years, the Missionary Servants of the Most Blessed Trinity have been present in eastern Alabama particularly in Phenix City and Holy Trinity. These are the places of our birth and childhood as a community. Holy Trinity brings to mind starry skies, peace in the pines and our historical riches. There are so many relationships, events and missionary endeavors connected with this special place.

We, the Missionary Servants of the Most Blessed Trinity find ourselves in the difficult place of facing the truth. We cannot continue to manage and maintain the buildings and property. We find we must deal with our reality and make some hard decisions regarding Blessed Trinity Shrine Retreat. It is very difficult to contemplate letting go of BTSR. The beauty, goodness and grace of God is so evident in the people, the retreats and the place itself. The first of many decisions is that we will accept no more reservations for retreats after December 2024. In the end, we will need to divest ourselves of this property. This will be a complicated process with many steps.

We share this information with you as you have been a part of the life of Blessed Trinity Shrine Retreat (BTSR) and a friend to the staff and sisters associated with BTSR over the years. We ask that you keep us in your prayers during this difficult time of letting go, but also to give God praise for all the good that has been done at BTSR throughout its history.

In the Blessed Trinity,

The MSBTs plan to schedule an event to celebrate the history that has been lived here and all of the blessings that have been granted to so many who have come here on retreat over the years. All will be invited. More information to come.
